ESSAYSHumanitarian Concerns

An IFS Holiday Poem

‘Twas the night before whatever-you-celebrate, when all thru the Self
Many parts were stirring, including an elf.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that a lead trainer soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of certification danc’d in their heads,
And Mama in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
could NOT settle our brains for a long winter’s nap–

because out in the world the isms made such a clatter,
I could not dare rest when SO MUCH was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.

I yelled to my parts o’er the new fallen snow,
“We must work together, polarizations must go!”
(with their permission of course, since they all have free will–
I’m twice level II trained, so I know the drill!).

Injustice is rampant, so many suffer,
We with some privilege must be the buffer;
Silence is violence, there is no doubt;
This is the message we all must shout.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a sleigh, and eight shining C’s quite clear,
With Self bathed in light guiding so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Dick.

More rapid than eagles, protectors they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and call’d them by name:
Now! Firefighters, Managers, all parts welcome here–
Addictions, Caretakers: you are each very dear.

I know your intentions are completely pure,
But those precious little ones need another kind of “cure.”
See what happens when embodied Self energy is driving,
Everyone grows, the system is thriving.

Come Clarity, Compassion, Curiosity, and Calm,
Together you offer such soothing balm;
Onward Courage, Confidence, Creativity and Connection!
All the IFS reindeer provide loving direction.

Parts together in agreement respond to the call:
“Now transform, transform, transform one and all!”
When they meet with an obstacle, Self soars past to the sky,
With the help of the elements, “Freedom at last!” is the cry.

So up to the mountain top the unburdened parts flew,
With the sleigh full of balance and harmony too.
And then in my stillness I heard deep inside
The message of hope from a legacy heirloom Guide;

The awesome voice exclaimed through radiant light,
“Collective Liberation for all, and to all a good night.”
